ICT Delegation Trips [October 2004]
Around the World in Eight Days
Three ICT delegations from Chinese Taipei have just completed a bit of a world wind tour, having visiting six economies in little over a week. The delegations managed to hit three different regions South America, South East Asia and also the South Pacific, stopping over in Chile, Peru, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.
Each delegation delivered a series of presentations on e- Government, e-Research, and e-Training to government, industry and academic institutions. During their visits, delegates were also able to gain an in-depth understanding of each economy’s current ICT status and future ICT needs. The visits also laid the groundwork for e-Program proposals, to be submitted to each local APEC SOM representative. The proposals are designed to act as blueprints for specific e-Projects to be carried out in 2005.
Local APEC SOM representatives as well as the organizations visited expressed appreciation for the delegations, showing strong interest in the suggested work items.
The delegations were part of the APEC Digital Opportunity Center Program (ADOC), which aims to enhance ICT capabilities within the APEC member economies to enable them to join and benefit from the New Economy.
The delegates hope to follow up on their progress by completing a second ICT tour early in 2005.
